[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If you are interested in installing a one-piece fibreglass swimming pool, there will no doubt be lots of questions you have.  The first thing you will need to know is the process of installation.

How long does it take? What if I have little access? Will you clear the area on completion?  In this article, we will answer some of the most frequently asked questions and explain the process of installation in greater detail.

Choose Which Type of Pool

So, you have decided to have a swimming pool installed in your garden, but have you considered what style you want? My Pool Direct have a range of various designs, and it may feel overwhelming.

  • Fibreglass – A fibreglass swimming pool is a one-piece pool made of fibreglass materials. Due to the fact fibreglass pools have a smooth surface, they will be easier to maintain than certain other pool types. Algae and other debris won’t stick easily to surfaces, therefore cleaning your pool will be a simple process. They are relatively quick to install, and you can rest assured your family won’t be risking scratched knees and feet from rough surfaces.
  • Dura Polymer – Our Dura Polymer Swimming Pools have many benefits.  They feature high colour stability and have added protection from long-term UV damage. Another benefit is their strength and mechanical resistance. Above all the Dura Polymer option is fully Bespoke.
  • Vinyl-liners – Although relatively durable and simple to install, vinyl-liner swimming pools have to be regularly maintained due to algae build-up, and the liner has to be frequently replaced.

What Size Pool Should I Choose?

When deciding on the size of your pool, consider the area you will be installing it into. Some people assume that if you don’t have a large garden, installing a swimming pool isn’t feasible.  There are so many variants to choose from, even if you have a smaller garden, this doesn’t have to be an issue.

Design and Colour

Everybody has individual taste! Sapphire Blue is one of the most popular choices. Then there is the shape to consider.  Your decision should be based on the shape and size of your garden.  Just some options to think about is Lazy-L, Kidney-shaped, and for those who are fitness conscious, you may opt for a lap pool.

Access to Site

Try to ensure you have good access to the rear of your property.  However, don’t rule it out! You can always find a local company that hire cranes to lift the pool over your house (please read our policy). Bear in mind, some side access will be required to get machinery in and safely remove ground waste.

The next stage is the excavation.  your groundworkers will need to dig a hole that is at least 1m larger than the diameter of your chosen pool.  They will then go on to dig down further to the depth of your pool, for example, 1.5m plus 7” concrete base and hardcore.  Once the hole is excavated, you will need a soakaway for any potential groundwater to leave the area where the pool will be installed.

Concrete Base

Next, you will lay a decent level of a concrete base with re-enforcement that will ensure the concrete has added strength.  After this, we will add a trench from the hole where the pool is going to be located to the plant room.  This will allow for the pipework from and to the pool area.

Pool Arrival

This is where the magic starts to happen!  Your new pool will arrive and be carefully lowered into the hole, access permitting, or Craned into place by a company of your choosing.

Now your swimming pool is in place, you will start to add the extras. This will include connecting skimmers, jets, lights and shutter around the exterior of the lights to allow future access.

Part Fill the Pool

Now it is time to part fill your swimming pool. The pool will be filled a 3rd high with water and then you will backfill concrete to the same level. This process is important to ensure equal pressure in and out of the pool.  Once the concrete has dried, you will add more water and backfill more concrete. You will repeat this process until complete.

The Final Stage

Once the pool is finished to your requirements, sit back, admire and enjoy!  Your new pool can either have decking or paving added around the top of the pool lip, or it can be paved or decked over the pool itself for a much cleaner look.

Final Thoughts

It may feel overwhelming, but if you have made the clever decision to have a swimming pool installed in your garden, Think of the fun you and your family will have especially in the warmer months of the year. We are always at hand with any questions you may have.
