A bright family pool designed to transform everyday garden living
This Durham project features a Sycillia swimming pool measuring 8m x 3.75m x 1.5m in a timeless Plain Blue finish. The generous footprint provides ample room for swimming and family activities, while the vibrant blue shell creates clear, inviting water and a traditional swimming-pool appearance.
Establishing the ideal garden position
The first stage involved selecting a suitable position for the pool that worked with the shape of the garden and the surrounding property. Consideration was given to access, sunlight, circulation space and how the pool would be viewed from the house and outdoor seating areas.
Preparing the excavation
The installation area was marked out before the ground was excavated to the required dimensions. Additional working space was retained around the pool position so the shell could be lowered safely and the plumbing and backfilling work could be completed correctly.
Forming a stable concrete base
A reinforced concrete foundation was constructed within the excavation. Careful levelling at this stage created a strong and even platform beneath the entire shell, helping the finished pool sit accurately and remain consistently supported.
Coordinating delivery to the property
The Sycillia arrived as a complete one-piece pool shell. Delivery was planned around the available access and the lifting requirements of the site, allowing the pool to be transferred carefully from the vehicle towards the prepared garden area.
Positioning the shell on the foundation
The pool was lowered gently onto the prepared concrete slab using suitable lifting equipment. Its position, alignment and level were checked thoroughly before the surrounding installation work continued.
Installing the filtration and plumbing
Once the shell was secure, the circulation pipework and filtration equipment were connected. The system was arranged to provide dependable water movement throughout the 8-metre pool and make ongoing operation and routine maintenance straightforward.
Filling and backfilling in stages
Water was introduced gradually while the space around the outside of the shell was backfilled in controlled layers. Carrying out these processes together helped maintain balanced pressure and provided even support around the pool structure.
Creating the finished poolside area
Following the structural installation, attention moved to the surrounding pool area. The final setting was arranged to provide comfortable access around the water and create space for relaxing, entertaining and enjoying the garden during the warmer months.
A striking Plain Blue pool at the heart of the Durham garden
The completed Sycillia combines practical swimming space with a bright and welcoming visual finish. Its 8m length is ideal for regular swimming, while the 3.75m width offers comfortable space for family use. The Plain Blue shell produces the familiar clear-blue water associated with a classic swimming pool and gives the completed garden a fresh, inviting centrepiece.
